When will Paul Biya return to Cameroon?
Cameroon’s presidential entourage is seeking to reassure the public about President Paul Biya’s prolonged stay in Switzerland, with Samuel Mvondo Ayolo saying the president is well and continuing to work.
Speaking from Switzerland, Mvondo Ayolo, director of the Civil Cabinet, said Biya “is doing well” and “is not and has not been hospitalized.” He told Le Figaro.
Mvondo Ayolo acknowledged that the president’s stay in Switzerland is “exceptional,” but questioned why the president should be deprived of what he described as “the exceptional.”
He also criticized those he accused of having an interest in spreading what he called “these fantasies” about the president’s condition.
But on the key question of when Biya will return to Cameroon, Mvondo Ayolo offered no date.
The civil cabinet director said the public would be informed “at the appropriate time,” amid growing speculation over the 93-year-old president’s prolonged absence from the country.
Biya’s return has been announced several times in recent weeks before being postponed, leaving the timing of his return uncertain
