Leadership Shift: Georges Fotso Spearheads ASCA Asset Management
The financial landscape of Cameroon has witnessed a significant development with Georges James Ndzutue Fotso taking the helm of ASCA Asset Management. This move marks a pivotal moment for the asset management firm, which is a franchise of the Attijariwafa bank group, responsible for portfolio management within the CEMAC region.
Georges Fotso, a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in lease financing and six years as the head of Alios Finances Cameroon, steps into asset management at a time when the industry is becoming increasingly competitive. With a strong background that includes three public bond issues since 2018, Fotso’s expertise is expected to steer ASCA Asset Management towards greater market share and enhanced performance.
As of December 31, 2023, ASCA Asset Management held 95.5 billion CFA francs in assets under management, accounting for 15% of the market share. The challenge ahead for Fotso will be to leverage his experience and knowledge to outpace competitors like Elite Capital and Harvest Asset Management, which hold 16.13% and 47.4% of the market share, respectively.
Fotso’s appointment, approved by Cosumaf on May 9, 2024, entrusts him with the responsibility to ensure compliance with the regional financial market regulations by all stakeholders within the firm. His educational credentials from HEC Paris and the Catholic University of Central Africa (Ucac) further solidify his capability to navigate and enhance ASCA Asset Management’s position in the CEMAC financial market.
The strategic direction under Fotso’s leadership will be closely watched by industry experts and investors alike, as he brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to ASCA Asset Management. His tenure is set to be a transformative period for the company, aiming to facilitate access to the regional financial market for both institutional investors and small savers looking to grow their savings.
After more than ten years of activity in leasing and in particular, at Alios Finances Cameroun which he managed for 6 years, Georges James Ndzutue Fotso is moving into asset management. The Cameroonian financier received approval to practice on May 9 from Cosumaf as general manager of ASCA Asset Management, the Attijariwafa franchise in charge of portfolio management in the Cemac space. He therefore replaces his compatriot Eugène Cissé Kouoh who left the position in October 2023 to embark on a new adventure with the stockbroking company Fedhen Capital.
“Mr Ndzutue Fotso Georges James is required to ensure in all circumstances compliance, by himself, by the directors, shareholders and managers and members of the staff of the UCI management company (Collective Investment Organizations, Editor’s note ) ASCA Asset Management of the regulation of the regional financial market,” indicates Cosumaf.
The sesame delivered by the regulator will allow the new CEO of ASCA Asset Management to manage the company’s investment operations on the Cemac financial and monetary markets. This is possible via collective or individual investment vehicles intending to facilitate access to the regional financial market, both for institutional investors and smallholders wishing to grow their savings.
A graduate of HEC Paris and the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC), Georges James Ndzutue Fotso knows the Cemac financial market and its different components well. In particular, there have been three bond issues by public offering since 2018. In his new outfit, the new CEO of ASCA Asset Management will have to equip himself with effective tools to gain more shares in a market that has become highly competitive. As of December 31, 2023, ASCA held 95.5 billion CFA francs of assets under management, i.e. 15% market share behind Elite Capital (16.13%) and Harvest Asset Management (47.4%).
