Halting Hostilities in Northwest and Southwest: Group Empowers 50 Young Individuals for Peaceful Community Projects
Reconciliation and Development Association trains 50 youth in conflict resolution and equips them to launch peaceful community initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue in Cameroon’s war-torn North West and South West regions.

In the quest for peace and stability in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, a commendable initiative has been undertaken by the Reconciliation and Development Association (RADA), a non-governmental organization based in Bamenda. This organization has taken a proactive step towards ending the prolonged armed conflict by training and equipping 50 young individuals with the skills necessary to foster peaceful community initiatives.
The Youth Engagement in Community Peace Initiative (YECPI) program spanned eight months and focused on conflict resolution, advocacy, and effective communication. The training aimed to empower these youths to become positive contributors and advocates for resolving the Anglophone crisis, which has affected the regions for over seven years.
The culmination of this training was marked by a ceremony in Bamenda, where the participants were awarded certificates, symbolizing not just the completion of their training but also the beginning of their journey as peacebuilders in their respective communities. The event was graced by the presence of representatives from the North West Regional Assembly and the Public Independent Conciliator, highlighting the collaborative effort towards peace.
Furthermore, the initiative included a survey on youth perception of the Anglophone crisis, revealing that the majority of participants view the root causes as political. This insight underscores the necessity for political engagement and dialogue to address the underlying issues fueling the conflict.
The efforts of RADA and the trained youths represent a beacon of hope for the affected regions. It is through such grassroots initiatives that sustainable peace can be achieved, by equipping the youth with the tools to engage in constructive dialogue and community-building activities.
As the world watches and supports Cameroon’s journey towards peace, the role of young peace advocates becomes increasingly vital. They are the ones who will carry the torch of reconciliation and development, paving the way for a future where armed conflict is a thing of the past, and communities thrive in harmony and mutual understanding.
The dedication of these 50 youths and the support of organizations like RADA serves as an inspiring example of what can be accomplished when communities come together for a common cause. It is a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there is always room for hope and action towards a peaceful resolution. The path to peace is undoubtedly challenging, but with continued efforts and the engagement of all stakeholders, a peaceful and prosperous future for the North West and South West regions is within reach.
