The Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC), a separatist group, has claimed responsibility for the recent deadly attack in Akwaya, Manyu Division, Cameroon. This claim contradicts initial reports that attributed the attack to Fulani herdsmen. The AGovC stated that the attack, which resulted in the deaths of seven Cameroonian soldiers from the elite Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), was carried out by Ambazonian fighters in retaliation for what they describe as an ongoing “war of extermination” by Cameroonian authorities against the people of Ambazonia.
The AGovC’s statement has added a new layer of complexity to the incident, highlighting the dual threats faced by Cameroonian forces in the region—ethnic tensions and the separatist insurgency
