Two men drowned at the Bamendjing Dam in Bangolan, a well-known fishing village in the Northwest Region. According to sources, Fonyuy Albert, approximately 30 years old, and Ngala Clifford, 35, were in a boat with two other men from Bangolan when their dug-out canoe capsized, leading to their drowning.
The two other men, who are locals from Bangolan, could swim and managed to escape the dam unharmed. Fonyuy was originally from Kitiwum in the Bui Division, while Ngala hailed from Ndu in Donga Mantung. Both worked at the Bangolan Baptist Health Center, where Fonyuy served as a pharmacy assistant and Ngala as a security guard.
Sources indicated that the deceased frequently traveled across the Bamendjing Dam. They were going to a fertile island across the dam to collect firewood and catch birds. Ngala Clifford is survived by a wife and four children, the youngest being only two months old.
At the time of the accident, neither man was wearing a life jacket, and they were unable to swim. As of the latest update, their bodies have been taken to the morgue at Shisong Catholic Hospital in Kumbo, Northwest Region.
