Cameroon Ministry of Defence Highlights Ongoing Security Threats in North West and South West Regions

The Cameroon Ministry of Defence has acknowledged that persistent kidnappings, ghost towns, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) continue to pose serious threats to security in the North West and South West Regions. This revelation came during a recent security and evaluation meeting held in Yaoundé.

The security situation in these regions remains volatile, marked by continuous violence, abductions, unlawful arrests, and destruction of property. The impact on the civilian population is severe, with many people fleeing their homes to seek safety in nearby bushes and communities. The use of IEDs poses significant risks to both civilians and security forces, complicating efforts to maintain peace and stability.

In addition to the immediate threats, the ongoing conflict has led to a humanitarian crisis. Many people in the affected regions face food insecurity, and a lack of access to healthcare, and other essential services. The Ministry of Defence has been working to address these challenges, but the situation remains dire.

The Ministry’s acknowledgment of these issues highlights the need for continued efforts to improve security and provide support to affected communities. It also underscores the importance of international cooperation and assistance in addressing the complex challenges faced by the North West and South West Regions.
