Cameroon must choose now—not between two men, but between a false peace and true justice.

Cameroon must choose now—not between two men, but between a false peace and true justice.

‘The Constitutional Council has proclaimed Biya the winner, but has not yet invested him’

Let’s be clear:

1. The Constitutional Council has proclaimed Biya the winner, but has not yet invested him.

2. Meanwhile, all credible counts, all observation reports, and all voices of conscience confirm that Issa Tchiroma Bakary was the true choice of the people.

3. Between the proclamation and the swearing-in lies a narrow but crucial window—a legal vacuum where legitimacy and legality clash.

4. The Council’s declaration gives Paul Biya a title, but not yet the office.

5. And when the very body that proclaims victory admits its own corruption and bias, the moral authority of its decision collapses.

6. History teaches us that when the institutions of justice become instruments of injustice, the people themselves become the Constitutional Council.

7. In such moments, lawyers—sworn members of the Bar of Cameroon—have not only the right, but the duty to defend justice and restore constitutional integrity.

8. If they choose to administer an oath before the nation and before God, investing President Issa Tchiroma Bakary as the true winner, this act is not a rebellion—it is a restoration.

9. Kenya did it in 2017.

10. Gambia did it in 2017.

11. Côte d’Ivoire did it in 2010.

12. Each time, the world ended up siding with the will of the people, not the decree of a corrupt council.

13. Legality without legitimacy is tyranny. Legitimacy without legality is revolution. And when the two come together in the hands of the people, it is called the rebirth of democracy.

14. Cameroon must choose now—not between two men, but between a false peace and true justice.
