A case of rape in police custody is shaking the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion. Me Ntimbane Bomo, a lawyer at the Cameroon Bar Association, revealed that one of the women arrested during the post-election protests stated that she was raped by a gendarme during her detention.

According to the testimony gathered by her lawyers, the victim claims she can identify the alleged perpetrator of the rape. She indicates that she complained to the competent authorities, but no action has been taken so far.

“We ask the state council to open an investigation into this matter,” declared Me Ntimbane Bomo, denouncing a worrying silence from the authorities in the face of what he describes as a “serious crime committed under the responsibility of the State”.

This revelation comes in an already tense post-election climate, marked by mass arrests, disappearances, and numerous reports of mistreatment of protesters arrested in several cities across the country.

Since the controversial proclamation of Paul Biya’s victory in the presidential election of October 12, 2025, several protests have erupted across the country. The repression by security forces has led to hundreds of arrests, scores of deaths. Human rights organizations have been raising the alarm for several days about alleged cases of torture and sexual violence in detention centers, with no official response from the government to date.
