Story by Tayah Lawrence Konfor,

Since the DR Congo reinstituted death through firing squad, Mass Execution of Notorious Armed gangs of Bandits has resurfaced in that country: Can the Democratic Republic of Congo’s solution be effective?, and then replicated in other African countries with similar problems like the republic of Cameroon?
In Cameroon there is a resurgence of armed youths known in Douala city as “Les Microbes ” but in Congo, they are referred to as”Les Kulanas” . Cameroon has been battling with its own street armed bandits, especially in Douala, through arrest and detention. However, the DR Congo has decided to summarily execute the gang members whose age bracket is 18-35. More than 170 of the Kulanas are to be executed; meanwhile 102 were allegedly executed and 70 are soon to face death sentence; despite protest from rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch.
In Cameroon, other street gang groups are copying the bad example of the “Les Microbes” and are attacking travel agencies in Baffia in the center region and along the Yaounde -Douala highway. These gangs operating in Cameroon will make an eruption as soon as bus or car stops and about 20 of them will invade passengers, suffocate them seize phones and hand bags and demand money. They are  armed with machettes and guns and very ready to take life if their demands are not met Anyway each country has its own way of fighting crime as there is not one-size-fit-all solution.
EDITOR’S NOTE
Worthy to note here that most of these notorious gangs are unemployed youth, some are school dropouts who cannot make ends meet with the high cost of living exarcebated by high taxation policies with geometric increase in prices of basic commodities
