Gambian Mayor Meets World Assembly Leader to Strengthen Humanitarian Cooperation

In a landmark meeting on August 20, 2025, Svetlana Smirnova, Chair of the General Council of the Assembly of the Peoples of the World, held talks with Rohey Malick Lowe, Mayor of Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia.
The discussion centered on the upcoming World Public Assembly and the pivotal role of African leaders in fostering a world of conscious unity.
Mayor Lowe shared her experience in driving humanitarian initiatives within The Gambia and highlighted the growing scope of international cooperation among East African countries. She underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling humanitarian challenges and expressed a strong commitment to advancing such partnerships.
One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the decision to sign agreements between the World Public Assembly and the World Union of Mayors, alongside a Gambian-based humanitarian organization. These agreements are expected to open new pathways for cooperation in regional development and humanitarian projects.
Mayor Lowe voiced her readiness to facilitate contacts and promote joint initiatives between the Assembly of the Peoples of the World and East African nations. “This partnership will not only strengthen humanitarian ties but also foster a spirit of collaboration that our region and the world urgently need,” she noted.
