The dismantling of the alleged criminals and their arrests were made possible through the use of crucial intelligence. “The operations carried out for this purpose resulted in the capture of a person believed to be the head of a gang focused on robberies. The information he provided later facilitated the arrest of his four accomplices in the Mvog-Ada area. All of these individuals, who are repeat offenders, range in age from 31 to 48 and have been active in Yaoundé and its vicinity for about a year. They are reported to have stolen over 15 million FCFA from two microfinance institutions,” stated the national gendarmerie.
The individuals in question specialized in robberies utilizing bladed weapons. Their method involved initially conducting surveillance of the targeted site before executing their plan, which included incapacitating security guards. “They employed their bladed weapons to access the contents of the safes. The outcomes of the operations performed by the Unit indicate the confiscation of several bladed weapons,” the source mentioned.
The five accused were presented to the judicial authorities on Thursday, October 17, 2024, and they will need to respond to their charges in court.
