One cannot bite the finger that feeds it, so it’s Kamto
In a recent media appearance, Dr. Nyamsi reacted to the appointment of Mrs. Julie Kamto, wife of President Maurice Kamto, by President Paul Biya. According to him, this appointment is justified by Mrs. Kamto’s background and skills, who, in his words, “has the qualifications to hold important positions and serve her country.” Dr. Nyamsi also reminded that Maurice Kamto himself was appointed by Paul Biya, thus highlighting continuity in presidential choices.
However, Dr. Nyamsi did not fail to point out what he considers an inconsistency in the treatment of other personalities. He notably mentioned the 2023 episode, where Maurice Kamto went to the Presidency at night to deliver a letter, an act that raised questions even among his close collaborators. To justify this approach, Dr. Nyamsi reminded that the Presidency is “the people’s palace” and that every citizen, including Maurice Kamto, has the right to go there.
But it is on the issue of boycotts that Dr. Nyamsi focused his critical gaze. He questioned why Annie Anzouer, an artist who makes a living from her work, was boycotted after being invited to perform at the Presidency as part of her skills. “Who boycotted Maurice Kamto’s wife? Who boycotted Maurice Kamto?” he asked, emphasizing that any appointment, invitation, or visit to the Presidency should, in his view, be judged on merit and not subjected to systematic boycotts.
Dr. Nyamsi calls to “stay within the logic of things,” insisting that appointments and invitations should be evaluated based on individuals’ skills and contributions, and not on political or partisan considerations. His plea for a fair and meritocratic approach to appointments at the Presidency resonates as a call for rationality in a context often marked by controversies.
