Professor Inga Koryagina Advocates for Africa’s Self-Determined Technological Future.
Professor Inga Koryagina, Convener of the 2025 International Multidisciplinary Conference (IMDC), called on African nations to embrace self-determination, ownership, and innovation as the foundation for sustainable development and technological sovereignty.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ICU TV at Radisson Blu Hotel, ahead of her departure for Russia, Professor Koryagina explained that her call for Africa to undergo a “critical system update” was deeply rooted in her belief that every nation deserves prosperity and the capacity to control its own destiny.
“My personal attitude applies to all African countries and to all other nations,” she said. “Every country deserves prosperity,
the ability to control and manage its own resources, its own development, and to take every opportunity to move forward.”
Professor Koryagina noted that global progress begins at the local level, emphasizing that cities, nations, and communities collectively shape the future of the world. According to her, Africa’s transformation must start with a mindset of self-respect, responsibility, and confidence in its own capabilities.
“We are the change of our cities, our countries, and together we make up the whole world,” she explained. “That is the angle I want people to focus on.”
Reflecting on her role as Convener of IMDC 2025, Professor Koryagina described the conference as more than an academic gathering, but a platform for actionable, multidisciplinary problem-solving. She said serving as Convener allowed her to help shape conversations that move beyond theory and toward real solutions for Africa’s development challenges.
Professor Koryagina’s “critical system update” message, first delivered during her opening address at IMDC 2025, centers on the idea that Africa must shift from dependence to ownership of ideas, technology, data, and innovation systems.
