To enhance healthcare services in the conflict-affected regions of Cameroon, health facilities in the North-West and South-West are receiving solar incubators and health vouchers.
Cameroon’s healthcare system continues to receive increased support through public-private partnerships. On October 4, 2024, in the MINSANTE conference room, the Orange Cameroon Foundation demonstrated its generosity by providing a significant donation to benefit maternal and child health in the North-West and South-West Regions.
This valuable donation, worth over 23 million CFA francs, comprises eight solar incubators and 500 health vouchers. It aims to support public health facilities and strengthen efforts to reduce maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality.
According to MINSANTE, combating maternal and infant mortality is a top priority for the Cameroonian Government, aligning with the SDGs set by the United Nations. Minister Manaouda Malachie emphasized, “We must ensure that every pregnant woman and newborn has access to quality care, regardless of their location. Solar incubators, in particular, will save lives in areas with limited access to electricity, providing critical care for premature or at-risk newborns.”
The eight solar incubators donated by the Orange Cameroon Foundation will be installed in maternity wards identified by the Ministry of Health as particularly vulnerable due to their lack of infrastructure. This equipment will help save newborns in critical situations and provide a sustainable solution to energy supply issues in remote regions.
The 500 health vouchers are valid in health facilities in the North-West and South-West regions, covering a full range of care from prenatal consultations to deliveries, including cesarean sections, as well as postnatal care for mothers and their babies. Minister Manaouda Malachie added, “Thanks to these health vouchers, many women will be able to access care free of charge, providing relief for vulnerable populations in these regions.”
The story brings up intriguing ideas. I’ve been following this topic for a
while, and it’s fascinating to see how it’s progressing.
Thanks for the comprehensive coverage.
