A photo project, “Weddings of the Peoples of the World: Cultural Heritage” will be presented at the World Public Assembly. This is an international cultural and educational initiative. Through the prism of wedding ceremonies, it reveals the identity of people, preserves their intangible heritage and builds cultural bridges between countries.

Since 2015, the author of the project, Denis Knyazev, has been travelling the world to capture unique wedding traditions in Russia, Asia, Africa and Europe. During the expeditions, photo and video chronicles of wedding ceremonies are created. The collected materials become the basis for colorful multilingual books, albums, exhibitions and educational programs for young people.

The project materials have already been available at the UN headquarters, under the auspices of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO, as well as in national libraries, museums and diplomatic missions in more than 12 countries around the world.

Denis Knyazev, the author of the project and director of the NGO International Cultural Dialogue, notes: “The wedding ceremony is the moment when people pass on their history and values to a new generation. It contains the roots of culture, the strength of the family, and hope for the future. Participation in the World Public Assembly is an opportunity to connect cultures, continents and generations, reminding the world that family and respect for traditions are always at the heart of peace.
