Whistleblower Yerima Djoubaierou Reportedly Held at SED in Yaoundé

Yerima Djoubaierou, a whistleblower who went missing in December in the Adamawa region, is reportedly being detained at the State Secretariat of Defence (SED) in Yaoundé. Yerima filmed a person in the ruling party’s regalia possessing hundreds of ID cards allegedly used for registering ghost voters. Instead of being praised for exposing wrongdoing, Yerima is now stripped of his freedom.

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, led by Maurice Kamto, is pressuring the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement party to release Yerima. Kamto describes the SED facility as an official torture center for opponents of the regime.
