A relative of one of the people abducted in Wum has challenged reports that the victims were rescued by the military, telling Breaking News that they were released only after ransom payments were made.
The source, who said a close relative was among those abducted on Wednesday, told Breaking News that money was paid to secure their release.
According to the family member, the principal paid 3 million FCFA, while another 1.1 million FCFA was also paid in connection with the release of the other victims.
The source expressed surprise at reports describing their release as a military rescue.
“The military never rescued them,” the relative told Breaking News. “They all paid 1.1 million and the principal alone 3 million. I’m surprised they said the military rescued them.”
Breaking News is seeking further confirmation of the exact ransom amounts and circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
