Cameroon begins camping ahead of double confrontation against Kenya today October 7, 2024 at the Hilton hotel in Yaounde. The first leg is billed for October 11 in Yaounde and the second is slated for Kampala, Uganda on October 14. These encounters count for the third and fourth match playing days of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ahead of the games, Head Coach Marc Brys announced his 24-man squad during a press conference at the headquarters of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) in Yaounde on October 5, 2024. The squad features a blend of experienced players and promising young talents. Notable inclusions in the team include newcomers James Ndjeungoue, Martin Atemengue, and Patrick Soko. The coach emphasized the importance of maintaining squad cohesion while also introducing young blood to inject new energy and ideas.
In the goalkeeping compartment, Coach Marc Brys has gone with his usual trio of Onana, Omossola, and Ngapandouetnbu. André Onana’s first choice position cannot be argued looking at his exploits. He was recently named Manchester United’s player of September. The two Simons; Omossola and Ngapandouetnbu are still serving as backup. Coach Marc Brys was questioned on Fabrice Ondoa’s absence amidst his strong form. The Coach explained that Cameroon possesses a wealth of talented players, many of whom are competing at top clubs. This makes it challenging to select a final squad. He stated that he prioritizes players who fit the specific profile he desires for each position.
The defense compartment plays host to one of the newcomers; James Ndjeungoue. The 21-year-old center-back plays for MSK Zilina, a first-division side in Slovakia. This park has also seen the comeback of Flavien Boyomo after his first-ever call-up for the double-header against Namibia counting the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. As for Jean-Charles Castelletto’s non-call-up again, the coach said he had talked with him, and admitted that he is getting more fit but regretted the current difficult situation between the player and his club coach.
The midfield equally has a new boy in the person of Martin Atemengue Ndzie. The 21-year-old who began his professional career in the home-based Renaissance of Ngoumou plays for FC Ashdod in the Israeli Premiere league. Compared to the last call-ups, he is the only new face in the compartment.
In the attack, Brys is making good use of his experience folk as well as injecting new energy. One of the newcomers, Patrick Soko, is a member of this set. The 26-year-old plays for SD Huesca in the Spanish second division. Nicolas Moumi Brice Ngamaleu equally makes his comeback after he was left out in the last selection. Bryan Mbeumo who is in hot form for his club Brentford in the English Premiere league has already scored six goals this season. Other notable to mention in the forward area are Frank Magri, Boris Enow, Christian Bassogog and not forgetting the captain Vincent Aboubakar leading the forward line
