Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) celebrates 67th anniversary

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) celebrates the 67th anniversary of autonomy. The church, which gained independence from the Basel Mission in 1957, is marking this milestone under the theme “Blessed Assurance”.

The celebrations took place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, both at home and in congregations abroad. This year’s event is particularly significant as it will be the last presided over by the outgoing PCC Moderator, Rt. Rev Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba.

In his traditional letter to the faithful, inspired by Psalms 124:1-6, the prelate expressed his conviction that the church, rooted in Christ Jesus, will prevail through all circumstances. He also wished for peace, justice, and fairness as the church moves forward.

The anniversary celebrations include prayers, liturgical singing, and various Bible-based activities. Groups within the church are expected to compete and evangelize, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth.

This year’s PCC day comes just before the elections for the church’s top leadership positions, including the Moderator and Synod Clerk, which will be held from November 16-18. Activities leading up to the celebration began on November 9, with various sporting events and other community investments across the congregations of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon.

The PCC has a rich history of contributing to the social and spiritual development of Cameroon. Over the years, the church has been involved in various educational, health, and social initiatives, providing support and services to communities across the country. The church’s schools and hospitals have played a significant role in improving the quality of life for many Cameroonians.

The 67th anniversary is not just a time for celebration but also a reflection on the church’s journey and its future. The PCC continues to face challenges, including maintaining its relevance in a rapidly changing world and addressing the needs of its diverse congregation. The church’s leadership is committed to navigating these challenges with faith and resilience, ensuring that the PCC remains a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come.

The anniversary also serves as an opportunity for the church to reaffirm its commitment to its core values and mission. The PCC’s dedication to promoting peace, justice, and social equity is evident in its various programs and initiatives aimed at uplifting the marginalized and vulnerable in society. The church’s efforts in advocating for human rights and social justice have earned it respect and recognition both locally and internationally.

As the PCC celebrates this significant milestone, it looks forward to a future filled with promise and potential. The church’s leadership and congregation are united in their vision of a vibrant and dynamic church that continues to make a positive impact on society. The 67th anniversary is a testament to the enduring legacy of the PCC and its unwavering commitment to serving God and humanity.
