Medicine: a fake Litacold in circulation
Litacold tablets is the name under which a counterfeit medicine commonly used in Cameroon against influenza-like syndromes is circulating. This situation is the subject of a circular letter sent on November 5 by the Minister of Public Health to health professionals (General Directors and Directors of 1st and 2nd category hospitals, regional delegates of Public Health, heads of public and private health facilities of all other categories, heads of public and private establishments for the wholesale distribution of pharmaceutical products, heads of pharmacies). In the said letter, Manaouda Malachie indicates that this Litacod presented as a product of the laboratory “Médicale Pharmaceutical” is presented exactly like the original (Pack of 4 tablets, identical primary and secondary packaging) but has no declared manufacturer and does not have any marketing authorization for its commercialization. The authentic Litacold has also obtained a marketing authorization in Cameroon on October 22, 2018. The Generic Healthcare PVT Ltd laboratory in India manufactures it. The health as mentioned earlier professionals are therefore called upon to be more vigilant. The Minister of Public Health therefore instructs them to ensure that this Litacoldt from the “Médicale pharmaceutique” laboratory is not in their stocks, to stop its distribution, dispensation, and/or administration if necessary, and then to quarantine it.
