Cameroon Parliament’s March Session Opens Amidst Senate President’s Prolonged Absence

Today, March 11, marks the opening of the March session of the Cameroon Parliament. However, the spotlight is on the conspicuous absence of Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji, who has not been seen publicly for over 11 months. The last time he was seen in public was during the March 2024 session when he was re-elected as Senate President. His prolonged absence has raised concerns, as he has reportedly been hospitalized in Europe.

The primary agenda of this session includes the election of a new bureau for the Senate. It remains uncertain whether Niat Njifenji will be re-elected as Senate President.
