Tchiroma Denies Any Negotiations With Govt, Insists He is Cameroon’s Legitimate President
Issa Tchiroma Bakary has vehemently denied that he is in talks with the government, assuring his supporters that he will never betray the confidence they accorded him at the 2025 election.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Barrister Alice Nkom, the opposition leader reiterated he is the legitimate President of Cameroon, not Paul Biya, whom he maintained was fraudulently declared the winner.
“I repeat this without the slightest ambiguity: in my capacity as Legitimate President, in a clear, established, and indisputable manner, I have never had the intention of negotiating my electoral victory—neither before, nor during, nor after the vote,” Tchiroma said through Alice Nkom.
“The people entrusted me with a precise mandate: to lead change at the Presidency of the Republic. I will betray neither this mandate nor popular sovereignty.”
He labelled the upcoming legislative and municipal elections as another attempt by the Biya regime to confiscate power. He said the election, which might be coming up around May, will be “organized in complete illegality”, noting that his FSNC party will not participate in it.
