CAMEROON: FLOODS SWEEP BUEA
Buea Residents once more in restive mode, this time not the guns but floods that have given the population sleepless nights.
Residents of Buea are still reeling from the shock after powerful floods swept through parts of the town following heavy rains from Mount Cameroon on April 2, 2026.
Homes and people were caught in fast-moving water as streets turned into raging streams, leaving destruction in their wake.
Local sources say the fast-moving water flowed through Ewonda as it descended the mountain, inundating homes and causing significant concern among residents—the runoff, described as unusually dark in colour, due to Mount Cameroon’s active volcano status.
Several houses have already been flooded, and the exact extent of damage is unclear at this point. There has been no loss of life, but eyewitness accounts speak of enormous material loss.
In the meantime, residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid affected areas as the situation remains dangerous.
Frequent floods are recurrent in this former capital of German Kamerun, Southern Cameroons.
