Wimbum Fons Condemn in strong terms the desecration of traditional titles
Wimbum Fons Union (WIFU), through its president and secretary, has issued a press release condemning some sons and daughters of Wimbum land.
They’ve categorically condemned the exploitation of Wimbum royal titles, artefacts, and sacred cultural performances by some Wimbum sons and daughters, who have been marketing these to filmmakers and impostors for cheap popularity. They say their actions are detrimental to the Wimbum culture, its history and heritage, and misleading to the younger generation.
This condemnation has come along with several declarations and stipulations which had already been implemented and practised.
They have stated that:
-Any traditional honour or title acquired by a Wimbum elite from another culture must be validated by the Fon of the concerned elite before it can be welcomed in the Mbum land or used in any Wimbum setting, both home and abroad.
-Any Wimbum person, be it elite or son and daughter, associating with or pledging allegiance to an unvalidated title holder shall be treated as a co-offender and sanctioned accordingly.
-Those already identified as having participated in the derogatory marketing of sacred cultural performances to impostors or filmmakers shall be sanctioned in line with Wimbum culture.
It should be noted that the WIFU is the Wimbum Fons’ Union, which is made up of the 34 villages of the Wimbum community. The body is responsible for preserving the cultural values, heritage, and dignity of the Wimbum people.
The document is signed by:
-The WIFU President; HRM Shey Banabas Mbunwe II, Paramount Ruler of Warr Clan.
-The WIFU Gen. Secretary; HRH King Kwefi II of Binka.
