Cameroon Plans to Borrow More Money
Cameroon plans to borrow about CFA 7.689 trillion between 2026 and 2028 to help pay for government expenses and development projects.
This amount is very large. It is almost equal to the country’s entire 2026 budget and represents about half of Cameroon’s current public debt, which stands at CFA 15.416 trillion.
In 2026 alone, the government plans to borrow CFA 3.197 trillion. The remaining CFA 4.5 trillion will be borrowed in 2027 and 2028.
Most of this money will come from foreign lenders such as international financial institutions and investors outside Cameroon.
Economists say Cameroon can still manage its debt for now. However, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the country’s debt is growing and could become a bigger problem in the future if not managed carefully.
