Cameroon’s 100-metre champion, Eseme Emmanuel Alobwede, has been appointed a National Ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Cameroon.

The appointment was officially announced on November 4, 2026, during a press presentation at UNICEF’s office in Yaoundé.

In his new role, Eseme will use his influence and sporting achievements to promote children’s rights, education, youth empowerment and meaningful participation, while encouraging adolescents across the country to believe in their potential.

During an exchange with U-Reporters and young people from AGAB, the sprinter encouraged young people not to abandon their ambitions, emphasising that discipline, dedication and hard work can help them achieve their dreams, regardless of when they begin pursuing them.

He also called on parents to listen to their children and support their aspirations.

UNICEF Representative in Cameroon, Nadine Perrault, said Eseme shares the organisation’s core values. His recent visits to Buea, Limbe and Méri, she noted, offered him an opportunity to witness the challenges children face and the impact of UNICEF’s interventions in communities.
