CAMEROON UNIVERSITIES MOURN
The academic community in Cameroon is in mourning, following the death of Associate Professor Akoko Robert, a renowned anthropologist who died Thursday evening after a brief illness.
Prof. Akoko was the pioneer Head of the Department of Communication and Development Studies at the University of Bamenda. Before his stint at the University of Bamenda, he also headed the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Buea. His career in academia spanned teaching, research and university administration, with particular contributions to anthropology, sociology and development studies.
His death marks the loss of a towering academic figure who served in leadership positions at Cameroon’s two Anglo-Saxon universities.
