Africa Day 2025 Speech

Africa Day 2025 Speech
By Akere Muna Presidential Candidate

My Dear Compatriots,

Today, as we mark Africa Day we celebrate more than just the birth of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963, we honor the unbreakable spirit of a continent that refused to remain in chains. This day reminds us that our freedom was won through unity, and our future depends on reclaiming that same Pan-African vision.

Cameroon has always been at the forefront of Africa’s liberation. Our founding father, President Ahmadou Ahidjo, was not just a leader of this nation but a founding architect of the OAU, whose wisdom helped shape our continent’s destiny. We are the only African country to have produced two Secretaries-General of this great institution. Yet, in recent decades, Cameroon’s voice has faded in the halls of the African Union. This silence must end.

The transformation from the OAU to the African Union (AU) was meant to create a true Union of African Peoples—not just governments. Today, a new generation of fearless African youth is breathing life into this vision, demanding progress , innovation, and unity. As a proud Pan-Africanist, I have walked this path:

– As the first elected Presiding Officer of the AU’s Economic, Social & Cultural Council (ECOSOCC),
– As a founding member and former President of the Pan-African Lawyers Union (PALU),
– And as a firm believer in the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM),the driving force for democracy, good governance, and economic transformation.

My commitment to Africa has not just been in words but also in action. And as your next President, I will ensure Cameroon leads again in the AU, not just in speeches but in real change—for our youth, our economy, and our shared African destiny.

Let us remember the call of our anthem:

“Let us all unite and celebrate together
The victories won for our liberation
Let us dedicate ourselves to rise together
To defend our liberty and unity.”

This is our mission. Together, we will restore Cameroon’s voice, reclaim our Pan-African leadership, and build a future worthy of our ancestors’ sacrifices.
Happy Africa Day
Long live Cameroon! Long live Africa!

Thank you.
