Cameroon Eliminated from CHAN 2024 by Central African Republic

In a surprising turn of events, Cameroon has been eliminated from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) by the Central African Republic. The decisive match took place in Bafoussam, where the Central African Republic secured a stunning 2-1 victory over Cameroon.

Despite holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, the Indomitable Lions A’ were unable to maintain their lead. Angel Yondjo Matah initially put Cameroon ahead in the 31st minute, but the Central African Republic equalized with a penalty converted by Barry Nelson just before half-time. The decisive goal came in the 87th minute when Bertillon Arnold Yangana scored, sealing the victory for the Central African Republic and marking their first-ever qualification for CHAN.

This elimination is a significant disappointment for Cameroon, who had reached the semi-finals in the 2021 edition of the tournament. The Central African Republic’s victory is a historic achievement for the country, and they will now look forward to competing in CHAN 2024
