Cameroon Government Withdraws Financial Management of National Teams from Fecafoot

The Cameroonian government has decided to withdraw the financial management of national teams from Fecafoot, the country’s football federation. This decision comes amid ongoing scrutiny and controversy surrounding Fecafoot’s financial practices. The government has announced a comprehensive audit of Fecafoot by the State Inspectorate General in 2025 to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds allocated to the sports sector.

The controversy peaked during a crisis involving Samuel Eto’o Fils, a prominent figure in Cameroonian football, and Narcisse Mouellé Kombi, the Minister of Sports. The dispute centered around the appointment of a coach for the national football team, highlighting broader concerns about financial oversight and governance within Fecafoot.

The government’s decision to take over financial management aims to address these concerns and ensure that funds are used effectively and transparently. This move is part of a broader initiative to examine various state-supported entities and reinforce public confidence in the management of state resources.
