Cameroon’s post-election battle has crossed borders, and it’s getting louder.
The Council for the Sovereignty of Cameroon (CSC) is praising The Gambia for protecting Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who won the October 12 election.
From their perspective, Biya’s rule is a hostage situation for Cameroon’s sovereignty. They argue that giving Tchiroma haven boosts their push to restore what they call the real election outcome, as legitimacy questions continue to haunt Yaoundé.
International reactions haven’t helped Biya’s case. Major allies remain quiet, and the government’s efforts to showcase selective diplomatic letters are being viewed by critics as a struggle for recognition that the regime has yet to secure.
For the CSC, Tchiroma’s presence in The Gambia is more than a refuge. They say it is a symbol.
They believe the man they call the “legitimately elected president” will one day return to take office in Cameroon, and they’re calling on citizens to keep resisting until that day comes.
As Tchiroma’s allies mobilise supporters from abroad, the political standoff grows deeper, and the world keeps watching what happens next.
