Douala: A Man Decapitates His Ex-Girlfriend and Cooks Her Remains.

DOUALA, CAMEROON – The city of Douala is reeling in shock following the discovery of a gruesome crime that has left the local community paralysed with horror. Authorities have arrested a man in the Logbessou neighbourhood under allegations that he decapitated his former girlfriend and attempted to cook her remains.

Discovery of the Crime

The incident came to light late Wednesday evening when neighbours reported a foul odour and suspicious activity emanating from the suspect’s residence. Upon forced entry, law enforcement officers were met with a scene described by first responders as “utterly depraved.”

According to preliminary police reports, the victim, identified as a young woman in her mid-20s, had recently ended a relationship with the suspect. Investigators found the victim’s remains in the kitchen area, where parts of the body were reportedly being prepared in cooking pots.

Arrest and Investigation

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending formal charges, was apprehended at the scene without significant resistance. Early indications from the judicial police suggest the motive was rooted in obsessive jealousy and a refusal to accept the termination of their relationship.

“We are dealing with a level of cruelty that defies logic,” stated a spokesperson for the Littoral Regional Police. “This was not just a crime of passion; it was a calculated act of desecration.”

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

The news has sparked a wave of outrage across Douala, reigniting urgent conversations regarding Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the need for better protection for women in domestic disputes.

  • Vigils: Small groups gathered near the site of the crime Thursday morning to offer prayers and demand swift justice.

  • Advocacy: Local human rights groups have called on the government to strengthen the implementation of laws protecting women from domestic abuse.

Legal Proceedings

The suspect remains in custody at the judicial police headquarters in Bonanjo. He is expected to face charges including premeditated murder and desecration of a corpse, which carry the heaviest penalties under Cameroonian law.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified graphic images of the crime scene on social media, out of respect for the victim’s family and to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.
