The Director General of Camwater, Dr Blaise Moussa, took part yesterday in a working visit led by the Minister of Water and Energy, Mr. Gaston Eloundou Essomba on the construction sites of the Emergency Project for better integration of the additional water volume of PAEPYS (PUMIP) into the network of the city of Yaoundé yesterday, January 16, 2025. This inspection tour took them in turn to the following sites: Golf, Nyom, Tsinga Village, Ebogo, Nkolbong, Mvan Tropicana, Odza borne 10 and Minkan.
The main objective of PUMIP is to ensure the absorption capacity of the additional water volume of PAEPYS in the drinking water distribution network of the city of Yaoundé. This is to provide greater flexibility in operating the Batchenga, Akomnyada and Mefou stations.
The work carried out on the various sites visited is detailed as follows:
– In Golf, the recovery station is being rehabilitated with the installation of a new 30KW electric pump, which currently allows for better service to high points such as Fébé Village and the Mont Fébé area.
– In Nyom, a connection of the existing DN110 mm diameter PVC network to the PAEPYS HDPE distribution pipe with a diameter of DN180 mm now facilitates the service of several areas such as Maetur Nyom, Zoatoupsi University, Messassi Enfants d’Afrique, and Olembé Brasseries.
– In Tsinga village, a 2 km DN110 mm PVC network is being installed to serve this new district which has recently experienced significant population growth with new constructions.
– In Nkolbong, a 2.6 km network in DN90 mm and DN63 mm PVC is being laid to supply drinking water to this new, rapidly expanding district.
– In Minkan, a 2.1 km network in DN110 mm and DN90 mm PVC is being deployed to supply drinking water to this new district, which previously had no drinking water.
– In Ahala, a 1.6 km network in DN90 mm PVC is being laid to strengthen the drinking water supply.
– Finally, in Ebogo, a 3.8 km network in DN200 mm HDPE is being built to strengthen the drinking water supply to the town of Soa.
In addition, the civil engineering works for the construction of the manholes to house the metering and pressure regulation equipment at the Soa connection point have been completed to date.
Overall, 8.3 km of tertiary network have already been laid in order to connect to drinking water, the populations of these different areas who have until now experienced difficulties in supplying drinking water.
At the end of this visit, the Minister of Water and Energy welcomed the progress of the work and stressed the importance of this project to improve the living conditions of the populations of Yaoundé. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to continue efforts to guarantee universal access to drinking water in Cameroon.
The Director General of CAMWATER, for his part, invited users of the public drinking water service to contact their nearest commercial agencies and centers for all their complaints, including requests for connection, subscription, denunciations of fraud or reports of breakages, for better support.
The PUMIP works will be completed in May 2025, which will allow the additional volume of drinking water of 300,000 m3/day from PAEPYS to be further integrated into the Yaoundé water network.
As a reminder, the PUMIP is a work of the Head of State supervised by the Ministry of Water and Energy. CAMWATER is the project owner. This project is expected to be fully completed by the end of May – mid-June 2025.
