Ghana’s Tallest Man, “Awuche”, Dies at 32
Sulemana Abdul Samed*, popularly known as _“Awuche”_ and widely recognised as Ghana’s tallest man, has died after a prolonged illness. Family sources confirmed his passing on Monday, July 27. He was 32.
Awuche stood at approximately 7 feet 4 inches (2.24 metres)* and lived with gigantism, a rare growth hormone disorder. His extraordinary height made him a familiar face across Ghana, but it also brought mobility challenges, back pain, spinal curvature, and breathing difficulties.
His health deteriorated in recent months. After a public appeal for help, businessman *Ibrahim Mahama* stepped in to fully sponsor his specialist treatment.
Despite the support, his condition worsened. He passed away weeks after being transferred from Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu to Tamale Teaching Hospital. He was buried later in Tamale in accordance with Islamic tradition.
May he rest in peace.
