Gustave Léopold Ngane Appointed as New Secretary General of Cameroon’s Senate

Gustave Léopold Ngane’s appointment as Secretary General of the Senate in Cameroon is a significant development. He was appointed by the Bureau of the Upper House of Parliament, led by Marcel Njifendi Niat. Ngane, a 62-year-old native of Campo in the South Region, previously served as a technical advisor in the office of the Senate President. He succeeds Michel Meva’a Meboutou, who is currently ill.

Ngane’s appointment comes at a time when the Senate is dealing with a corruption scandal that led to the dismissal of Bernard Wongolo, the Deputy Secretary General. Ngane holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Yaoundé 2 Soa and has held various positions, including Director General of the Cameroon Press and Publishing Company (SOPECAM).

His appointment is seen as a move to bring stability and integrity to the Senate, especially in light of recent challenges. Ngane’s experience and background make him a suitable candidate for this important role
