On Friday, October 4th, 2024, community leaders delivered a memo to the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung, Bassiliken Georges Magloire Emmanuel, emphasizing the importance of Nkambe as an island of peace in the turbulent North West Region. They expressed gratitude for several ongoing infrastructural projects in Donga Mantung Division and highlighted the significance of these projects for the region. The leaders also mentioned the construction of the Ring road stretch from Kumbo – Ndu – Nkambe – Misaje, the construction of the Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex, and the presidential plan for reconstruction and development of the North West and South West Regions.
They emphasized Nkambe Central subdivision’s unique status as the only area in the North West Region where children attend school on Mondays in their uniforms. Additionally, they highlighted the community’s active participation in national festivities and their strong attachment and respect for state institutions. The leaders expressed their rejection of violence, particularly the ongoing armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions, and their commitment to supporting the President in building a greater Cameroon. They also acknowledged individuals who have contributed to the peace, security, and stability of the subdivision.
The memo also addressed the challenges faced by Nkambe, including attacks, kidnappings, and killings. The leaders attributed these incidents to unpatriotic individuals collaborating with secessionists to destabilize the region. They expressed concern about deceitful reports being sponsored against elected officials and called on President Paul Biya to intervene and take measures to reassure the youth and the peaceful population of Nkambe. They requested reinforcement of security in Nkambe Central and pledged their unwavering support and loyalty.
Lastly, the community leaders expressed their hope for a return to peace and tranquility in Nkambe, which they had enjoyed before the crisis began eight years ago.
