Reports from Bambili, located in the Tubah Subdivision of the North West Region of Cameroon, indicate that two female students from the University of Bamenda have been kidnapped by gunmen. The names of the victims were not available at press time. The incident took place on Sunday evening, November 17, 2024, in a student hostel in the Down Quarter, near Bambui village, around 6:30 PM. The students were returning from a social gathering at 3 Corners Bambili when they were taken.

According to information gathered, four gunmen arrived on two motorbikes, stormed the area, and abducted the two girls. A male student who was with them managed to escape. The kidnappers fled the scene with the two female students on their motorbikes, heading to an unknown destination. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

Kidnappings in the Tubah Subdivision have been on the rise over the past five months. As an educational hub in the North West region, Bambili has seen increased attacks targeting students and teachers. Recently, the Tubah administration, in collaboration with the University of Bamenda, banned all festivities in student hostels. The Divisional Officer of Tubah, Masango Nacist, explained that many kidnappings and incidents of harassment in student residential areas in Bambili and Bambui are often associated with parties organized by students.
