The Vice President of Tanzania resigns
The Vice President of Tanzania, Dr Emmanuel John Nchimbi, has resigned barely one year into office.
Dr Emmanuel John tendered his resignation on Tuesday and will leave office effective September 4 this year.
In the letter, he said that on 27 August 2025, he promised President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan that he would help her and Tanzania with all his might and loyalty.
“I also assured her that if any day she feels she needs another vice president, I will vacate this position. I have satisfied myself beyond a doubt that the President desires change, so I have decided to fulfil my promise,” he added.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu was elected in one of the controversial elections that saw the opposition heavily cracked down upon.
With Dr Emmanuel John departing, Samia will look for another vice president.
This will make him the third vice president in less than five years. Samia succeeded the late President Magufuli, who died in office.
