Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, announced its first-ever export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to Cameroon in a landmark move for regional energy integration. This significant milestone, achieved through a strategic collaboration with Neptune Oil, marks a new era in the energy relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon.

The Export Milestone

The initial export involves 60,000 metric tons of PMS, commonly known as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, to Cameroon. This development underscores the refinery’s capacity to meet Nigeria’s domestic fuel needs and position itself as a key player in the regional energy market.

Statements from Key Figures

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, expressed his vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. He stated, “This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people”

Economic and Regional Impact

The collaboration between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil is expected to have far-reaching benefits. For Cameroon, it represents a significant step forward in accessing high-quality, locally sourced petroleum products, reducing reliance on international intermediaries, and potentially stabilizing fuel prices. For Nigeria, this export showcases Dangote Refinery’s ability to meet domestic needs while expanding its influence in the regional energy market.
