MORE CAMEROONIANS ARRESTED FOR BACKING ISSA TCHIROMA
Captain CELESTIN TCHISSAKADI, a military Captain at the Djoum Training Center, has reportedly been taken by agents of Military Security (SEMIL).
His family suspects he was transferred to Yaoundé and says they’ve had no contact with him for three days.
Originally from Mayo-Danay, Captain TCHISSAKADI is accused of expressing support for ISSA TCHIROMA BAKARY’s electoral victory.

About 30 politicians and activists linked to Tchiroma’s campaign were reported detained by authorities before the official election results were announced. This includes party leaders and campaign figures.
▪️ Two prominent opposition figures — Anicet Ekane and Djeukam Tchameni — were specifically arrested at their homes as part of that crackdown. worthy to note that Anicet Ekane later died in detention.

These numbers are tied to demonstrations supporting or connected to Tchiroma’s claim of victory, but not limited to him personally:

▪️ Over 100 protesters were reportedly arrested during protests in some cities.
▪️ At least ~105 protesters were reported detained during clashes in Douala alone.
▪️ According to broader sources on the overall unrest, hundreds were arrested nationwide — one report suggests around 800 arrests, and a UN-linked estimate indicated around 2,000 detentions related to the wider unrest over the controversial election.

Some estimates place total detentions in the hundreds or even around ~1,000+, depending on the reporting source and definition of “supporter.

Official numbers from government sources may differ from civil society or independent estimates.

Reporting is ongoing, and the situation has been dynamic with arrests, releases, and detentions continuing.

Here’s a breakdown of reported arrest figures in Cameroon related to support for Issa Tchiroma Bakary and the post-election unrest (note: numbers vary by source and context — some refer specifically to Tchiroma-linked political figures, others to protesters generally):

• 2 key opposition leaders were arrestedAnicet Ekane (MANIDEM) and Djeukam Tchameni (MDI), both part of the coalition backing Tchiroma’s presidential bid, were detained in Douala ahead of the results.
• ~30 politicians/activists connected to Tchiroma’s campaign were reportedly detained before official results, according to some accounts.

These figures reflect high-profile political arrests rather than mass detentions of general demonstrators.

After Tchiroma rejected the official results and called for protests, at least ~105 protesters were arrested during clashes with security forces in Douala and other cities
• Civil society groups reported 200+ arrests in post-election unrest in some cities
• About 30 people were detained overnight in Yaoundé’s central prison during protests in mid-December.
• Around 50 people (including a minor) were brought before a military prosecutor, with roughly 30 remanded in custody.

• One compilation of events around the election cited more than 800 arrests nationwide tied to protests after Tchiroma’s challenge to the official results.
• Human Rights Watch reported that over 2,000 people were detained during the post-election crackdown, including many held without charge, though not all are necessarily documented individually.

A telling reflection of the current state of the Republic.
