Biya’s time is over, says President – elect Issa Tchiroma
Talking over the weekend on a Southern Cameroons platform, Issa Tchiroma Bakary indicated that he will do whatever it takes to reclaim his “stolen” victory.
He reminded Cameroonians that he will fight to protect their will of October 12, 2025.
“Mr Biya’s time is over,” he says. “Any decision taken by Mr Biya is null and void.”
Tchiroma argues that Paul Biya “confiscated power” to create a monarchy in order to appoint his son to take over.
He reminded President Paul Biya, who is missing in action, that the change of the constitution is illegal and will not be respected.
Another thing he highlighted was that he, Tchiroma, was in good health.
“Mr Biya should understand there is nothing God has created that will last forever,” he said.
This was his first video outing after appealing to the Cameroonian military to come and take him from the Gambia.
“Whosoever is appointed to take over from Biya, we will not accept. I am the president of 30 million Cameroonians,” he stated.
Paul Biya was declared the winner in a very controversial presidential election in 2025. Despite evidence from independent sources showing Tchiroma as the winner, the Constitutional Council declared Biya the winner, without presenting evidence. At least 65 Cameroonians were subsequently killed and over 2000 arrested.
Yet, since then, the country has been in limbo. A new government has not yet been appointed. Biya has barely carried out any functions as president. All that keeps happening are reshufflements across security forces, announced by questionable decrees posted on Biya’s social media accounts.
Biya himself has abandoned the country and fled to Switzerland, where he has not been seen since June 7th.
