The Southern Cameroons Mourns

Ambassador Henry Fosung, One of the Architects of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC} Passes Away

Ambassador Henry Fosung passed away on 1 April 2026, in the United States, where he had lived for several decades.
A prominent figure in the Southern Cameroons’ struggle for self-determination, Ambassador Fosung played a key role in raising awareness about Anglophone marginalisation. He notably hosted the Buea Readers’ Club, a platform that contributed significantly to the emergence of the Anglophone Movement.
He was among the Anglophone leaders who championed the idea of the All Anglophone Conference (AAC I), held in Buea in 1993. Following the second conference (AAC II) in Bamenda, he served on the Standing Committee, formed after the expiration of the “reasonable time” given to the Government of Cameroon to address Anglophone grievances.
Ambassador Fosung also faced repeated harassment during his visits to Cameroon from the United States, owing to his views and involvement with the SCNC.
