Can this be a lost fight for Cameroon’s Minister of Finance?
What the Ministry of Finance is discussing with civil servants, especially the Defence Forces, regarding family allowances: does it truly measure the social impact that this policy will have on their families?
Simple calculation, brutal reality:
A Civil servant with 10 children receives 5,400 FCFA per child, which is 54,000 FCFA, deducted directly from his salary.
If this Civil servant is already in debt and, after deductions, takes home only 100,000 FCFA, he is left with 46,000 FCFA. He pays rent and has three children to send to school, feed, and care for.
Question: What can he do with 46,000 FCFA per month?
