ANOTHER GIANT LANDGRABBING SCANDAL CONCERNING GOV OKALIA IN LIMBE
The State of Cameroon had allocated some 20 hectares of land to the National Hydrocarbon Company (SNH) some time ago for the eventual construction of a gas bottling company around Mokundange village. To the greatest surprise and embarrassment of the authorities of the SNH, in a recent visit to the site with some investors, they discovered that the whole area had been carved out into plots with buildings on it. According to Mrs Nathalie Moudiki, the Legal Adviser of SNH, after meeting with the Fako Senior Divisional Officer, Mr Viang Mekala, she made it abundantly clear that all those structures on that area shall be demolished in the near future.
Some of those occupants who have erected their structures there made us understand that they acquired those plots through the Chief of Mokundange, alongside his son and uncle Jerry Ebot Bessong, who told them that he was representing both the Governor, the Fako Senior Divisional Officer and the Divisional Officer of Limbe 2 sub-division in the sales transactions. The surveyor who drew up the cadastral map of the 20 hectares was a certain Bidel Toguem.
Reliable sources have also revealed that the SDO of Fako too is amongst those who have constructed there as well.
We have always condemned the issue of land grabbing in Fako by these civil servants who arrive here often in rags, wretched and hungry.
When we met Uncle Jerry Ebot, who just returned from India where he went for some medical checkup, he told us that he wasn’t a native of Mokundange and that he was only invited by Chief Nyalale of Mokundange who asked him to look for potential buyers of land in his village. And that if they wanted to know more, they should contact the Mokundange Chief or his son. We remember having seen a picture of the Prince of Mokundange in company of Uncle Jerry Ebot Bessong carrying very “big handbags”.
According to the Chief of Mokundange, he says he was deceived by the Senior Divisional Officer, who told him that SNH no longer had use for the 20 hectares of land and that he should apply for its surrender.
So let’s wait and see how far this SNH/SDO/MOKUNDANGE land tussle shall go.
