Just wars are few. They are extremely rare. Looking at the historical and monumental consequences of war, one may conclude there is hardly any ” just war”. The common denominator in all wars lies in their absolute unpredictability as to their evolution. Putin declared war on Ukraine and styled it “a brief security operation”. Never in his wildest dream did he, for once believe five years on and counting the red army will be bogged down in Ukraine. Trump declared war on Iran with the goal of regime change. He envisaged a swift victory in a matter of weeks. He could not have been more delusional. He is still there searching for a way out. Israel has been battling Palestinians for decades, or close to a century. When Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa he never dreamt for once that the harsh Russian winter will be his Waterloo. When Biya declared war on Southern Cameroons, he announced to the world that his army will quench secessionists in a matter of days. A decade and more later, the conflict has degenerated into a quagmire of absolute lawlessness, chaos and a considerable loss of state authority. Apart from the immeasurable loss in human lives, war is an extremely expensive venture. For a desperately poor and highly indebted nation war should never be an option. It is something to avoid absolutely. Barely a couple of years into his war the Biya regime collapsed financially. It was the last nail on a limping economy shattered by endemic corruption and chaotic management. One key aspect of war is sustainability. If you can’t sustain a war, don’t engage it. But the Biya regime is notoriously reckless and callous. When the regime found out its coffers were empty, it devised a self-sustaining approach to its war efforts at a painful cost to the people of southern CAMEROONS. The war is being financed by the economy of the victim. Kidnappings, extortions, of individuals and businesses, were institutionalized in the modus operandi of the administration and the military. The jaw-dropping amount from these merciless activities is what is financing the war in Southern Cameroons. If you are looking for a reason as to why the regime is not just nonchalant but arrogant in rejecting dialogue despite the painful cost of war, look no further. Biya’s war effort is financed and sustained by state institutionalized criminal extortions in Southern Cameroons.
