“A Father is Going”: Presbyterian Church BASSA Logbaba in Tears as Rev. Pastor Ngwayi Roland Nchangong is Sent Forth
Douala, Logbaba, The sanctuary of Presbyterian Church BASSA, Logbaba was filled with songs, prayers, and tears this Sunday, June 28th as the congregation held an emotional send-forth service for Rev. Pastor Ngwayi Roland Nchangong.
After eight years of shepherding the flock in Logbaba, Pastor Roland has been transferred by the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon to continue his ministry in the Dchang West Region.
An Atmosphere Heavy with Emotion. From the first hymn, it was clear this was no ordinary service. The choir ministered with a mix of praise and pain. Many Christians sat with handkerchiefs in hand as testimonies poured in.
Mothers’ Fellowship, the Youth, Elders, and different groups all stood to celebrate a pastor they described as “a teacher, counsellor, intercessor, and father.”
“He visited us in our homes. He prayed with us in our pain. He corrected us in love,” one member testified, her voice breaking. The entire church echoed with “Amen” and tears.
Njap’s Son, BASSA’s Shepherd, Dchang West’s Blessing: Hailing from Njap in Nkambe, Donga Mantung Division, Rev. Pastor Ngwayi Roland Nchangong is known for his humility, discipline, and passion for souls. Under his leadership in BASSA, many lives were transformed, youths were mentored, and the work of God grew steadily.
While Dchang West gains a committed servant of God, Logbaba feels the weight of goodbye. Church leaders, after prayers and the laying on of hands, presented him with gifts as a token of love and appreciation for his faithful service.
“I Came to Serve, and You Let Me”
In his farewell message, Pastor Roland, visibly moved, thanked the BASSA congregation for their love, partnership, and prayers.
“I did not come to be served, I came to serve. And you gave me the privilege to do so. BASSA will remain in my heart always,” he said, as the congregation rose to its feet in applause, mixed with sobs.
He charged the Christians to remain united, prayerful, and committed to the work of God, reminding them that “the Church is bigger than any one man.”
The service ended with a long line of hugs, prayers, and photographs. Elders, youth, children, and women all wanted one last moment with their departing shepherd.
As Rev. Pastor Ngwayi Roland Nchangong leaves for Dchang West Region, Presbyterian Church BASSA Logbaba sends him forth with tears in their eyes, gratitude in their hearts, and prayers that his ministry will continue to bear much fruit.
