UN SG Appoints Cameroonian Lawyer Njoya Tikum to Burkina Faso

Tikum officially took up the position on July 18, 2026, following his appointment by UN Secretary-General António Guterres with the approval of the Burkinabè government.

He brings nearly two decades of experience across the United Nations system, with expertise in sustainable development, governance, peacebuilding, human rights and institutional reform.

In his new role, he will lead the UN country team and coordinate development and humanitarian operations in Burkina Faso, where millions of people continue to face insecurity, displacement and limited access to essential services. His appointment places another Cameroonian professional in a major international leadership position.
