[Press release] Glencore case: in Cameroon, the National Hydrocarbons Company welcomes the progress of the proceedings
In a significant development in the Glencore case, the National Hydrocarbons Company (Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures, SNH) of Cameroon has expressed its approval of the advancements in the legal proceedings. The case, which has garnered international attention, involves allegations of bribery linked to the Swiss commodity trader Glencore and its operations in Cameroon.
The head of SNH, Adolphe Moudiki, has confirmed that certain managers and employees of the corporation will be appearing before a UK court to face charges related to the bribery allegations. This statement marks a departure from previous denials of staff involvement and underscores the gravity of the accusations at hand.
Glencore’s UK subsidiary has previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of bribery in connection with oil operations not only in Cameroon but also in other African nations. The total sum involved in the Cameroonian context is reported to be around 7 billion CFA francs (approximately $11 million), which was allegedly used to secure preferential access to oil resources between 2011 and 2016.
The proceedings are a testament to the collaborative efforts of international law enforcement agencies and the commitment of the Cameroonian authorities to address corruption. The SNH’s welcoming of the progress indicates a positive step towards transparency and accountability within the sector.
As the case unfolds, it will be crucial to observe the outcomes of the legal process and the measures taken to prevent such instances of corruption in the future. The involvement of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) of the UK and the actions of the Cameroonian state anti-corruption commission will be instrumental in shaping the discourse on corporate ethics and governance in international business dealings.

Glencore case: in Cameroon, the National Hydrocarbons Company welcomes the progress of the proceedings against the perpetrators and accomplices of the acts of corruption which tarnish its image.
The Managing Director of the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH), Minister Adolphe Moudiki, informs national and international opinion that the managers and employees of the Glencore company, perpetrators of acts of corruption committed to the detriment of the SNH, have been identified and will appear before the Westminster Court in London on September 10, 2024.
This information, which has just been made public, marks a significant step forward in the search for the truth in this sordid affair.
The SNH, which filed a complaint before the Special Criminal Court (TCS) on November 6, 2023, to identify the Cameroonian accomplices of these acts of corruption, is confident that the outcome of the procedure in London will allow the acceleration of investigations at the level of the TCS.
In any event, the Managing Director of SNH recalls that the values of ethics and transparency have always formed the granite foundation of SNH, and reassures national and international public opinion that it will be informed, in due course, of developments in this matter.
