CAMIFF 2024 Cameroons premier film festival kicks off in Buea
The Cameroon International Film Festival (CAMIFF) 2024 has officially commenced in the picturesque city of Buea, marking the eighth iteration of Cameroon’s premier film festival. This year’s event, spanning from April 22 to April 27, is a celebration of cinematic excellence, showcasing a diverse range of films from Cameroon and across the globe.
The festival opened with the screening of “Half Heaven,” a film by the acclaimed Cameroonian filmmaker Enah Johnscot, starring the award-winning actress Syndy Emade. This sets the tone for a week filled with over 50 film screenings from various countries, including Nigeria, France, Brazil, Botswana, the USA, the UK, South Africa, Senegal, and Switzerland, among others.
CAMIFF is more than just film screenings; it is a hub of knowledge sharing and industry advancement. The festival’s program includes masterclasses on Directing, Acting, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Documentary Film, and the Film Business. These sessions are designed to educate and inspire both seasoned professionals and aspiring filmmakers.
A highlight of the festival is the collaboration with Local Youth Corner, a youth-led civil society organization, to conduct a workshop on the role of entertainment in community dialogue and social cohesion. Additionally, the Cameroon Film Industry executive board will lead a workshop to sensitize attendees on the state of the Cameroonian film sector.
The festival’s founder, Prince Agbor Gilbert, has been instrumental in promoting Cameroon’s film talent since CAMIFF’s inception in 2016. This year, the festival expects to attract close to 6,000 stakeholders from the Cameroonian cinema sector, further solidifying its position as the largest film event in Cameroon and a beacon for the African film industry

Nollywood, Africa’s largest film industry, continues to play a significant role in CAMIFF, with past editions graced by renowned actors like Ramsey Nouah and Zack Oji. This year, Nollywood actor and producer Ruth Kadiri will host a workshop alongside CFI President Brenda Elung and Laurent Sicouri, Director of Cinema at Canal+ International, to discuss film and business.
The festival is not only a platform for showcasing films but also a cultural celebration. Themed nights, including a mask night and an all-white party, add to the vibrant atmosphere. The event will culminate in an award ceremony on April 27, honoring the best in film and creativity.
