Kidnapped Nigerian High Court judge regains freedom
A Nigerian High Court judge has regained his freedom one week after unidentified gunmen kidnapped him from his home in Kebbi State.
Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted in Bunza town on July 26 and released on Monday, August 3. The circumstances surrounding his release remain unclear.
Police said the kidnappers demanded a ransom but maintained that the command was opposed to making ransom payments.
Although the judge’s release has brought relief to his family and colleagues, his abductors remain at large.
The incident has again raised concerns about insecurity in northwestern Nigeria, where armed gangs routinely attack communities and kidnap residents for ransom.
